Chakra Communication - 1st and 2nd Chakras

Previously, I did a series on chakras and how to tune into your own energy centers. If you haven't read it, check out the archives for a good baseline. Today, I invite you to explore how the energy centers work together. This is a complex topic, but I'll simplify it for you. We'll start with the first chakra (root chakra) and the second chakra (sacral chakra).

Root Chakra (1st Chakra): Associated with survival. Read more on my previous blog.

Sacral Chakra (2nd Chakra): Associated with emotions and sexuality. Read more on my previous blog.

How They Work Together in Balance

When balanced, your emotions might signal when something is off with your survival needs. For instance, you may feel scared, worried, or uneasy about finances or your home. This is your inner call to "pay attention”. Another example is how your need for species survival is connected to your sexual impulses, even if it's not about procreation. Your survival instincts might reassure your emotional center, telling it to "calm down" rather than "pay attention".

Signs of Imbalance

An imbalance can manifest in various ways. One common issue is the fear of being emotional or sexual, and fearing it might impact your survival. For example, being emotional at work might make you afraid of losing your job. Similarly, opening up sexually might cause fear of rejection or abandonment. Often, people let their emotions dictate their sense of security—feeling happy equates to safety while feeling anxious or sad brings a need to protect themselves on a primitive level.

Symptoms of a root and sacral imbalance include:

  • Fear of expressing emotions.

  • Using your emotions to control your sense of safety or the sense of safety in someone else (raging, or acting out to gain control).

  • Hiding your sexual desires or feelings because you think you will be injured or abandoned if you don’t.

  • Using your sexuality to keep someone around to take care of you physically, including financially.

  • Being unwilling to try and be creative for fear of breaking a community rule or unspoken social norms.

  • Laughing inappropriately to hide true feelings from others.

Communication Pattern

Do you notice the communication between your first and second chakras? Do you trust your emotions to help you navigate the world? Do you allow your survival instincts to ground your energy, maintaining emotional and sexual balance? This is a good place to explore the relationship between the two energy centers.

Journal Prompts:

  • What were you told about emotions as a child?

  • What is an emotion that feels safe for you to express? Which one feels unsafe?

  • What do you think will happen to your safety if you fully express your emotions?

  • What do you think will happen to your safety if you express your sexuality?

  • What do you think will happen to your sense of security if you express yourself creatively?

Reflect on how your first and second chakras are communicating with you. Identify any patterns that are no longer serving you and consider releasing them. You can simply release them by changing your mindset or letting yourself know that what you believe to be true, isn’t actually true.
